One of the most under used reports in Fleet Telematics is the maintenance report. Service vehicle and truck fleet maintenance costs are a key component to your overall operating costs – and to making sure your vehicles are available to be deployed.
If your vehicles are under maintained, you are opening the door to expensive repairs – and maybe more importantly – to lost vehicle availability, with the resulting overtime costs and vehicle rental costs.
If your vehicles are over maintained, you are causing yourself unnecessary expense with no real benefit.
Creating the Maintenance Balance
How do you create that balance? Maintain a rigorous schedule with reminders to trigger the required maintenance. And to do that, you simply have to use the Nero maintenance reports. You enter the work that is done, and the system monitors the odometer and engine hours to ensure that the right balance is kept in maintenance frequency.
Systemize Fleet Maintenance with Reporting
Some of the most common vehicle and truck fleet maintenance items include oil change, fluid check, brake inspection, and tire rotation. Once you have entered the triggers for the maintenance (miles or kilometers, number of days, and / or engine hours), you get notified of an approaching maintenance. You can then schedule the vehicle for service, based on availability and other maintenance work required for the vehicle. When the work is done, the records are updated, and the timer starts again.
You get to choose what service types you want to monitor, and they are completely configurable by you. You also select who gets notified for each service type, so that the maintenance work can be scheduled upon notification.
Easy, not complex, and clearly assigned responsibility – this is what makes a maintenance system work for your team.
You may have installed vehicle telematics for the cost benefits of reduced fuel usage, reduced wear-and-tear through better driver behaviour, or reduced idling time. But you can reap additional benefits by deploying your maintenance module at no additional cost. This makes for an even better business case for you to start using vehicle telematics.
