If you’re in the trucking or transportation business you’ve probably been hearing a lot about Electronic Log Devices, or ELDs for short. The new digital method of recording hours of services (HOS) that will replace traditional pen and paper logs is set to become mandatory in the United States December 2017. Canada will likely follow suit with a similar framework soon thereafter. We are monitoring the situation closely and have partnered with an industry leading HOS provider to ensure we can provide our customers with a fully compliant ELD solution once the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) releases all the legal specifications.
So what does this mean for you? Will your business be required to have ELDs? Mandatory ELDs will mostly affect long haul truck drivers. If your fleet stays within a relatively small area you may not be legally required to have ELDs. If your fleet is required to implement ELDs, rest assured that we’ll have a legally complaint solution integrated into your existing Nero Global system ready for you when the time comes.
Please reach out to your account manager or give us a call if you’d like to chat some more about ELDs.
